Translation Acquisition: Dawn of the Zombie Apocalypse (Spanish) by Lee Murray

IFWG’s long-planned move to publish Spanish-language titles will come to fruition this year, bolstered by a strong Spanish-language distribution wing of our North American distributor (IPG) as well as some distribution penetration into the marketplace in Spain via Gazelle. David Bowles’ El espejo humeante (translation of The Smoking Mirror) has already been announced and it will be released in May/June 2022.

Our second Spanish release is today’s acquisition of world-wide Spanish book and ebook rights to Lee Murray’s middle grade novel, Dawn of the Zombie Apocalypse (El Amanecer del Apocalipsis Zombi). The team who were involved in the translation, editing, proofreading, and quality control, are many, and carried out their functions spectacularly.

“It’s not a coincidence that we have acquired Spanish language middle grade titles from our existing catalogue,” says Gerry Huntman, Managing Director of IFWG, “as we have successfully tapped into a significant Spanish-speaking reader audience in the US, and our network allows us to sell books into North, Central and South America. This could not have been done without truly excellent middle grade texts, such as Murray’s Dawn of the Zombie Apocalypse, as well as having a strong network of translators and proofreaders, particularly those that understand the nuances between regions in the Spanish speaking world.”

El Amanecer del Apocalipsis Zombi will be released in the Americas (via our International imprint) in the first instance, in October 2022.

Lee Murray is a multi-award-winning author-editor and poet from Aotearoa-New Zealand. A USA Today Bestselling author, double Bram Stoker, and Shirley Jackson Award-winner, Lee’s titles for children include Battle of the Birds, a Sir Julius Vogel Award winner for Best Youth Novel, MisplacedMika, and Conclave 7El Amanecer del Apocalipsis Zombi (Dawn of the Zombie Apocalypse, also available from IFWG), is her first title in Spanish.
